Mickey’s Legacy
Robert H Mac Farran, known to most as Mickey, grew up in Ramsey, graduated from Ramsey High School, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Bergen County Police Academy, and the F.B.I. National Academy, Quantico, Virginia. He served in the United States Army Military Police. Retired as a Lieutenant from Mahwah Police Department, serving 26 years.
During this time, he was president of the Mahwah Youth Sports Boosters, coaching many teams of boys and girls, baseball, softball, soccer, and ice hockey. He was a member and Chairman of the Mahwah Recreation Committee for many years.
For thirty years, Mickey was employed as the Dean of Students, School Security Officer and disciplinarian of Mahwah High School, where he talked to and taught life to many students. He coached golf for many years, being voted “Coach of the Year” in 2008 by the Bergen County Golf Coaches Association.
Mickey enjoyed playing various sports over the years, softball and ice hockey in his early adult life and later golf with many relatives and friends, traveling to many golf locations with Nancy up and down the East Coast. As a loving grandparent, he and Nancy could be seen at almost all of their grandchildren’s athletic sporting events and school functions.
Mickey touched a lot of people in his life. He would always have advice, a friendly comment, or a funny one. He cared about people, and he would help as much as he could. In his honor, this foundation was created to preserve his legacy of helping people, to provide scholarships to Mahwah graduates who seek to help people the way he did.
